Gangtok, August 28: The
department of Food and Consumers Affairs has inspected
and regularly checking the stocks of essentials food
commodities around the state to ensured the consumers
from black hoarding of essential commodities like sugar,
wheat, rice and edible oils.
B K Kheral, secretary of
Food and Consumers Affairs department told Himalayan
Mirror that the departmental officials are directed to
raid or inspect all the food godowns to take present
food stocks available to ensure the consumers from black
hoardings. He added that during last one week
departmental officials has inspected more than eight
food godowns in the state.
He said that the
department is notifying essential commodities rate chart
weekly through district collectors to regulate the
market rates varies from time to time and assured not to
panic due to shortages of essential commodities in the
state.
He said that
differentiate in price hike between Food Corporation of
India and Millers, has created some shortages of sugar
in the market has created panic to consumers for its
shortages. He also said that Sikkim is getting 127
metric tones of sugar which is much lesser than
requirement has created some shortages in the market
adding that there should be substantial hikes in sugar
from Rs. 18 to Rs.24 per kilogram, Rs.9.52 for wheat as
per state government prescribe rates in all government
fair shops. Government has also notified market rates on
weekly basis for open market as per the rates available
in wholesales market in Siliguri, he added.
At present 350 metric
tones of rice, 237 metric tones of wheat for Sikkim from
Food Corporation of India besides central government
schemes to provide rice to Below Poverty Line family in
the state. |

donation camp in
memory of martyr Maj. Durga Malla and Capt.
Dalbahadur Thapa
of the Indian freedom movement.
An
Appeal to all
Gorkha Shaheed Sewa Samiti - an NGO has been
working for the betterment of the society
through its social welfare activities. It has
been decided with the consent of all the members
that a blood donation camp would be organised at
Indian Red Cross Society Blood Bank, New Delhi
The underlying objective behind the said event
would be to help the Indian Red Cross Society
Blood Bank through its voluntary means for the
betterment of the society as a whole, while also
to commemorate the social event by paying homage
to the martyrs of Indian freedom movement- Capt.
Dalbahadur Thapa and Maj. Durga Malla of Indian
national Army (INA), their contribution towards
the nation cannot be remained unsung.
A saga of patriotism towards their nation- Maj.
Durga Malla had to face the gallows on 25th of
Aug, 1944 at Delhi central jail while fighting
the Britishers. Similarly Capt. Dalbahadur Thapa
became a martyr, who was hanged on 3rd may 1945
at Delhi central jail
