DARJEELING, Aug 24: Former vice-chairperson of Darjeeling
Municipality Manikala Tamang today left the hills following the
diktat passed by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha’s women front.
Mrs Tamang, a one time Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF)
movement leader, was from Singibari-Takvar. She had been
‘requested’ to leave the hills by GJM Nari Morcha as she was
charged of involved in ‘undesirable’ activities.
“We had given her (Manikala Tamang) one week’s time to leave the
hills and today she called up to say that she has left the
hills”, said Muna Gurung, the publicity secretary of GJM Nari
Morcha unit of Singbari-Takvar.
The GJM Nari Norcha asserted that it had ‘peacefully requested’
Mrs Tamang to leave the hills as per the democratic movement
policy of the party. We never gave any threats to her, said the
party. |
